Wars
04:32
|
|||
I can feel it all the time, baby, all the time
All the time – it’s faking from you.
Well, I’ve been faking it too.
If you can hold your own, then golden baby, hold your own
But hold the phone – it’s ringing for you.
Mine’s been ringing too.
And just when I could hardly take anymore,
That’s when she was ready to start a war.
My friend, she was ready to start a war
Just like I had never fought in a war.
I can hear it your tone, baby, hold your tone
Hold your tone – is it faking from you?
I pray for faking from you.
They can hear it through the walls, they’ve been making calls
So keep calm!
Officer, surely you can relate to me too.
I’d wire it shut, but she’d find a way to scream through clenching teeth.
Cite how I always find a way to keep it about me.
I know my girl, so I repeat the words she hears on the TV.
Still, if I was smart enough I’d find a way to keep her eyes on me.

Truths
04:00
|
|||
Wait – I’ll ride along as long as it’s your car.
Say, I’ll sing along – as long as it’s your song.
But hey, I’ve not got long.
The girls are inside and they’re getting warm.
See, I’ve fooled them all!
I've fooled the child so unfold the towel.
I mistake what I’ve been given for what other people claim.
I could overhear you telling her, “I’ve fallen either way,
I'm shedding you for you. I swear.”
I could overhear them telling truths like they feared what they said.
So stay. I’ll say I’m wrong if you swear that you keep your fault.
See, I’ve fooled them all!
I've fooled the child so prepare the towel.
I mistake what I’ve been given for what others throw away.
I could overhear them saying, “He’s with her but she’s with me.”
And I’m shedding you for you. I swear.
I could overhear him telling you how I was mistaken.
And I mistake where I’ve been driven for where others go to stay.
I could overhear them saying, “He’s a mess and where is she?”
I’m shedding you for you. I swear.
I could overhear them living youth like they knew it was dead.

Freeze & Eat
02:59
|
|||
Oh, no! I could hide in the wheat or I could shake in the sheets
But baby you don’t want to know.
I don’t know what to say to her.
Oh, no! I could feel the heat but she was making a B,
So don’t if you don’t want to go.
But I don’t know what to say to her.
Oh, no! I was feeling a breeze, but she was starting to freeze and eat
And freeze and eat (and you all know I don’t know what to say to her.)
And Oh… know that I could pay the fee
And I could melt in the freezing heat.
But I know none of you hear what I say to you.
But you know what I mean. You’ve all seen the screen.
You can snoop around. You’ll figure it out.
You’ll find what you need
and you can go crazy.
Oh, no! Now I’m weak in the knees ‘cause she was showing her teeth
But baby you don’t want to know
just who these songs have made me too.

The Weekend's Water
02:45
|
|||
I remember first waking up, may as well have been a hospital bed.
I remember, remember when.
I remember first looking up, may as well have been a slap upside the head.
I remember, remember when
I followed you home
Our legs would tangle, the weekend’s water flowing through our veins.
And I remember falling faster.
Soon we’d be drowning and we’d be climbing over each other just to breathe.
I remember first shaking you up, may as well have been a shotgun to the head.
Neighbors ignore the noise, I’m in the bedroom painting our walls red.
I remember the first cold war. I remember the second and the third.
I remember, remember them.
Can’t seem to recall when
I followed you home
Our legs would tangle, the weekend’s water flowing through our veins.
And I remember falling faster.
Soon we’d be drowning and we’d be climbing over each other just to breathe.
And I remember.

Follies
03:52
|
|||
Harebrained horrifically, his tortured tenure lengthy.
He’ll stay but won’t stay there for long.
A fortune focus fuzzy, see. The only way that he’s happy.
Say what you’re thinking of saying.
And make what you will of my day.
I made my grave and in my grave I’ll stay.
Say what you will of my claims,
But I won’t forget those few sober days.
Well, maybe I could forget.
Proportioned so mythically, encouraged father faithfully.
He’d say, “Sorry I’ve been away.”
Fold, forgive, and urgent we’d forget forgotten follies frequent.
Say, what are you drinking today?
Fortunate for the young ones they’ll forget
And frolic in fields without a forced fabrication of feeling.
Their feet take them faster.
Fortunate, forget do the young ones.
Maybe I did forget.

Good Gracious!
03:20
|
|||
Good gracious, your father!
Tailor-tied for a tale, but still Father’s taller than them tales.
Take Father when wolves followed
And twelve attacked in the woods
But not once did Father let me go.
Your father warned me, “Dear, keep close.”
Your father wounded, waiting, waged war with wolf.
Father ripping wolf limb from limb.
We watched as weary weasel wolves went weeping.
He would’ve wanted you to know.
Good gracious, your father!
Tailor-tied for a tale, but no tale quite Father-tall be told.
Take Father when markets crashed.
He would pick through the rock and break his back
All to warm our stove. Your father’s toiling soaked the coals.
And did Father heed the calls as posters pointed?
Father was first aboard the ship.
We watched as weary wives of warriors were weeping.
They would’ve wanted you to know.
Your father died that day a glorious hero.
Forget who you think you saw on that train!
Your father left us all, that’s all that matters.
I think that’s all that you should know.

Hell With It
03:35
|
|||
I'll feed the children whatever they will eat.
I wouldn't want the children to not stay here with me.
I'll teach the children what they've already seen.
I wouldn't want to scare the children, you see.
An I swear I’ll have this place dazzling by the time you’re here.
I sweat I’ll be looking dazzling by the time you see me.
Defy the children, see they don't care a bit.
Children these days steal their own clothes. Hell with it.
And I swear I’m ready to give up on these little brats.
I'm ready to be done with curlers and barrettes.
If I could find my way, I’d be gone.
